Scatterjazz Meets the Pixel Party – David Buchbinder, Will Thompson & Joshua Smith
June 8 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm CDT
A very unexpected offering to create a unique group of sound sculptures to accompany a public pixelation art party at the Broadside! I have very little idea of what to expect from the art situation, but it sounds wild and compelling. I also do not know what to expect from the exceptional collection of sound sculptors that I have put together for the evening, crossing many boundaries they are.
The Juno award-winning trumpeter and world music fusion pioneer David Buchbinder has been a fixture in Toronto for nearly 40 years, recently maintaining an underground presence in New Orleans. Joshua Smith is a marvelous saxophone player whose career was based in Cleveland and the Bay area, a founding member of the very influential progressive jazz trio “Birth” out of Cleveland, and also recently maintaining an underground presence in New Orleans. Anchored (or untethered?) they will be our old pal and unique instigator Will Thompson (aka “WATIV”) on keyboards, computers and more.
My understanding is that there will be two short sets of music, the first one beginning around 8:00 p.m. However, those details are fluid, the event is free and open to the public and is listed as beginning at 7:00, and I have every reason to believe it will be exceptional. Be there OR be somewhere decidedly-less-hip!
